Jake knew that he had spent too much time studying. He could tell because he couldn't think about anything else and he was starting to become bored. Dressed in a grey zip-up hoodie over a maroon t-shirt with jeans and tennis shoes, Jake left the Gryffindor common room with his wand in his left front pocket and Scales perched on his right shoulder. He had a funny feeling that Scales would cause some problems if someone tried talking to him, so he already figured to send him off to explore or something. Scales got out no more than Jake did, so Scales needed the fresh air as well. The pair found themselves at the black lake, one of Jake's favorite locations at Hogwarts. Jake sat down slowly, careful not to agitate Scales before deciding to speak.
Hey, why don't you go explore for awhile? he asked Scales. Might just, though it implies that you fear that you won't be able to talk to anyone if I'm around. Not offended, just amused, the cobra replied before slithering off into the grass. Jake just shook his head and chuckled slightly before looking out towards the water. He sat there for a time watching the movement of the water before hearing footsteps of someone coming near.

Alexis was in a right foul mood at the moment. After nearly being killed by a plant in Herbology, it was understandable. She slipped her jacket on before grabbing her wand of the table and stuffing it in her pocket, kissing her kitten on the tip of its pink nose before heading out. She shoved open the doors to the grounds and walked calmly over to the lake. She screamed when she saw something slither in the grass near her feet.
"What is a Cobra doing on the grounds?" she yelled to the Gryffindor bot sitting there. "Who the hell keeps a snake as a pet?" she demanded, stepping away from it before glowering at the boy standing there.

"A parseltounge, that's who. Sides, he's been defanged, so he can't bite you and put venom into you. No need to blow up over it. Thought a Slytherin would appreciate a snake here, guess not," he replied with a sigh and a shrug. He had seen the girl sit at the Slytherin table in the Great Hall, explaining how he knew what house she was in, though he wasn't exactly appreciative of being yelled at by her. What was the problem with a snake being at Hogwarts? There was a whole house devoted to them after all. Slytherins just didn't appreciate some things was the guess he made. He was a bit amused by the girl's reaction to Scales, and a quick check with the cobra proved that Scales was also amused by the girl's reaction. It was as if a Slytherin didn't like snakes...

Alexis rose an eyebrow suspiciously at the boy. "Not all Slytherins are fond of snakes." she said coldly, crossing her arms. "And it's not every day that you see a cobra, of all things, slithering around the grounds. Besides, that thing scared the hell out of me." She was still trying to calm her heartbeat from the experience. Yes; a big, bad scary werewolf afraid of a little snake. She chuckled to herself. It happens.

"He's not going to bite, so what do you have to fear? He's perfectly harmless. He tends to be a bit sardonic, and sarcastic as well, but he won't harm anyone physically except me, and that's if I ignore him for too long," Jake replied, an amused expression still on his face. This girl, who seemed to be older than him, was definitely amusing. She didn't think for one second that a parselmouth would have a snake at the castle? And parselmouths aren't exactly hidden anymore, so one popping up shouldn't surprise anyone at all, so why was she surprised to see a snake owned by a parselmouth? He did have to acknowledge, however, that she ran into Scales first, thus wasn't excepting the snake. That seemed to be more than enough of an excuse for her to slide by with only amusement as a reaction from Jake.

"Well, I couldn't exactly know that from first looking at him." she said pointedly, raising an eyebrow. For all she knew, the snake could have snuck into the castle and decided to wander about. She scowled at them both when she noticed the boy's amused expression. He actually expected someone to have a snake as a pet? True, he was a Parselmouth, but she was a werewolf, and you didn't see her wandering around with a pet wolf. And besides, she had an awful experience with a snake in her second year; an idiot decided to turn a posionous one loose out into the Forbidden Forest, thus, when Alexis accidently stepped on it during her transformation, it bit her on the ankle and caused her to limp for a week.

"Well you know now, so why keep worrying or complaining about it?" he replied, the amused expression on his face becoming more like a smirk due to the girl's scowl. He couldn't help this, it was just too much fun! He was only surprised that the girl hadn't tried attacking him yet, though she probably figured that Scales would try to stop her, which would lead to some really nasty consequences on both sides. Jake did know that he probably shouldn't keep pushing the girl's buttons, though the fact that she kind of made them obvious made it near impossible for him to ignore them. Just the fact that she wasn't a fan of Scales was amusing to him, though for those that knew him, he wasn't 100% a fan of Scales himself, and that Scales was only around to help him get away from his dislike of Snakes.
